Primary Batteries

Primary batteries are mainly differentiated into Alkaline battery and Zinc-Carbon battery (aka Super Heavy Duty batteries). Primary batteries need to be replaced and recycled when they are fully drained as they cannot be recharged, therefore people tent to buy in quantities and store them at home in case of need. Here are a few tips for maintaining battery usage life:

1.         Batteries should be stored at a dry cool place at a temperature that is around +15℃ to +25℃ (+59℉ to +77℉) and in an environment that have humidity at 60±15%.

2.         When using primary batteries, avoid mixing Alkaline Batteries with Super Heavy Duty Batteries within the same device.

3.         Avoid mixing new with old batteries within the same device.

4.         Batteries should avoid contact with heat and moisture.

5.         Arrange unused batteries in a compartment or storage box, avoid storing batteries loosely.

6.         Avoid using Super Heavy Duty Batteries in high drain devices such as digital cameras, camera flashlights, high functioning toys, gaming controls, wireless mouse etc…

7.         Remove the batteries if the device will not be in use for several consecutive days or the device will no longer be used.

8.         Remove the batteries from the device when the batteries are fully drained.

Rechargeable Batteries

Rechargeable batteries are mostly differentiated into Ni-Mh, Ni-Cd, and Li-ion, these three are the most common type of rechargeable batteries that we might come in contact. Here are a few tips for maintaining the battery life and prolong usage.

1.         Batteries should be stored at a dry cool place at a temperature that is around +20℃ to +25℃ (+68℉ to +77℉) with a 30% to 50% charge.

2.         Avoid mixing batteries with different capacity and different charge in a device, therefore it is advised to fully charge batteries of the same capacity and use them together in the device

3.         Avoid mixing batteries of different chemistry together; meaning you should avoid mixing Ni-Mh batteries with Ni-Cd batteries.

4.         Arrange unused batteries in a compartment or storage box, avoid storing batteries loosely.

5.         Remove the batteries if the device will not be in use for several consecutive days or the device will no longer be used.

6.         Remove the batteries from the device when the batteries are fully drained all together and recharge them together with appropriate battery chargers.

7.         Ni-Mh and Ni-Cd rechargeable batteries should be fully drained and charged at least once every 3 months.

8.         Li-ion rechargeable batteries should avoid to be fully drained and be fully charged every 3 months even if they batteries are not in use.
